Indications for Prostin VR Use

Prostin VR is used to temporarily keep the ductus arteriosus open in newborns after birth (this duct normally closes shortly after birth). It is specifically indicated for infants with congenital heart defects who need the ductus arteriosus to remain open longer to ensure sufficient blood flow to the rest of the body.

How is Prostin VR Administered?

• Prostin VR is administered via continuous injection.

• It is typically used for no more than 2–3 days at a time and for the shortest duration necessary.

• Treatment can be repeated as needed.

• Therapy usually begins on the fourth day after birth.

Side Effects of Prostin VR

Prostin VR may cause some side effects, including:

• Flushing.
