Description

Evra is a contraceptive patch applied to the skin that releases synthetic hormones: norelgestromin (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen). It is used to prevent pregnancy and is considered as effective as combined oral contraceptive pills with perfect use.

Benefits and Uses of Evra contraceptive patch

  • Evra contains two types of sex hormones:

    • Norelgestromin (a progestin).

  • Ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen).

  • These hormones prevent pregnancy by:

    • Inhibiting ovulation.

  • Thickening cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus.

  • Altering the uterine lining, making it less suitable for implantation of a fertilized egg.

How to use Evra patch

  • Weeks 1, 2, and 3: Apply one patch per week and leave it on for seven consecutive days.

  • Week 4: Do not use any patch during this week.

  • Additional Important Instructions:

  • Change the patch on the same day each week, as it is designed to work for 7 days only.

  • Never leave the patch on for more than 7 consecutive days without replacing it.

  • Use only one patch at a time.

  • Do not cut or modify the patch in any way.

  • Avoid applying the patch to irritated, inflamed, or injured skin.

  • Ensure the patch sticks firmly to the skin for effectiveness.

  • When applying the patch, press it down firmly so that all edges adhere properly.

  • Do not apply creams, oils, cosmetics, powders, or makeup on or around the patch, as these may affect adhesion.

  • Rotate application sites to avoid skin irritation—do not place a new patch on the same spot as the previous one.

  • Check daily to ensure the patch is still in place and has not fallen off.

  • Continue using the patches even if you are not sexually active regularly.

  • Seal the disposal sticker completely around the used patch, then dispose of it safely, ensuring it is kept out of children's reach.
